About the Recorder's Office: The purpose of the Recorder's Office is to maintain land records in an organized and easily accessible format. Many types of documents are recorded for public record. Without the County Recorder's office, accurate land ownership, title transfers and mortgage histories would be almost impossible.
Commonly, title companies use the Recorder's office to run title checks on properties being purchased. These checks are made to determine proper ownership and to see if any liens exist upon the property in question. Every time a piece of land is to change ownership, a title company is required to perform this check. Though most commonly used by title companies, all records within the Recorder's office are public record and are accessible to any citizen. The County Recorder's office is self-funded, meaning no tax dollars go to support the operations of the department. All funds are generated through fees associated with recording and retrieving documents. For questions regarding these fees, please visit our schedule of fees page. |
